Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions, troubleshooting tips, and walkthroughs for Group SMS+.
How to use the app?
Start with the short walkthrough, then follow the same flow inside the app: pick your recipients, compose your message, choose a frame size, and send.
- Create a group or open an existing one.
- Select the members you want to message.
- Write your message and choose a frame size.
- If your carrier is strict about group messaging, or you want each person to receive an individual text, set the frame size to 1.
I cannot send messages on iOS 26.
Some users on iOS 26 run into sending issues. The quickest workaround is to turn off MMS Messaging in iPhone Settings, then try sending again.
- Open Settings → Messages on your iPhone.
- Turn MMS Messaging off.
- Return to Group SMS+ and send the message again.
- With MMS turned off, you can send text only, not photos or other media.
I cannot send picture attachments.
Picture attachments depend on MMS support from your carrier and your iPhone settings.
- Open Settings → Messages and make sure MMS Messaging is turned on.
- Try sending the photo again from Group SMS+.
- If MMS is unavailable through your plan or carrier, text-only messages can still send, but photo attachments will not.
Is there a restriction on how many people I can add to a group text?
The app itself does not enforce a hard limit, but your mobile carrier might cap how many recipients can be included in one message.
- If delivery fails for larger groups, lower the frame size to 1.
- Retry the send after reducing the frame size.
How much does it cost to send messages?
Costs depend on your mobile carrier and your plan. Unlimited-text plans usually avoid extra charges, but some carriers still limit how many texts you can send in a given period.
How can I make sure recipients do not see the other recipients in the group?
Set the frame size to 1 so each recipient gets an individual message instead of being grouped into a shared thread.
What is Frame Size?
Frame Size controls how many recipients are included in each SMS or RCS message when you tap Send. For example, if you have 20 recipients and set the frame size to 10, the app sends two separate messages with 10 recipients each.
How do I avoid sending messages as iMessage?
Adjust your iPhone's Messages settings so Group SMS+ sends as SMS instead of iMessage.
- Open Settings → Messages.
- Turn iMessage off.
- Turn Send as SMS on.
- Turn MMS Messaging on.
- Turn Group Messaging off.
- Turn Show Subject Field off.
- If you also want recipients not to reply to each other, set the frame size to 1 inside the app.
I can’t get rid of the keyboard to hit the Send button.
This is an iOS bug. Rotate your phone to landscape and then back to portrait to dismiss the keyboard and make the Send button visible again.
How do I send messages to more than 20 people at once?
Sending to more than 20 people at once is not guaranteed by every carrier, so use extra caution for important announcements.
- Compose the message and tap Send.
- Wait for the Messages app to recognize the phone numbers. With large recipient lists, this can take a few minutes.
- After the numbers finish processing, tap an empty area of the screen.
- Tap the + button to open the contact list so the keyboard can hide.
- Tap the X button to close the contact list.
- The Send button should become visible again. Tap it to send.
- For critical communications, double-check with recipients to confirm delivery.
How do I send messages in batches of 20 to multiple recipients?
Use the Frame Size control to split a large send into smaller batches of 20 recipients.
- Open the New Message screen.
- Tap the Frame Size control in the toolbar above the keyboard.
- Choose 20 from the menu.
- Return to the message screen and confirm the Frame Size now shows 20.
- Send your message. Group SMS+ will automatically divide recipients into batches of 20.
I changed a phone number in the app. Why don’t I see the change in Apple Contacts?
After contacts are imported into Group SMS+, they are managed inside the app. Editing them there does not update Apple Contacts.
I added new people to Apple Contacts. Why don’t I see them in the app?
Group SMS+ does not live-sync with Apple Contacts. After adding someone in Apple Contacts, you still need to add or import that person into Group SMS+.
I accidentally removed the app. How can I restore the data?
Group SMS+ does not store your data on its own servers. If you have an iPhone backup, you may be able to restore your data from that backup.
How do I import contacts from a CSV file?
You can add many contacts at once by importing a CSV file.
- Create a CSV file with this exact header row: group, first_name, last_name, phone_number, note.
- Each row should contain one recipient. Example: Group,Johnny,Applesead,+1 (900) 000-0000,Note.
- In Group SMS+, open More → Import Members and choose the CSV file.
